Ferguson On the Farm Service Unit
I don't know very much about this item so I'm asking you, the experts. I do have two manuals that came with the unit and it looks like it was bought new in June of 1952.

I would be interested in selling the unit if I can determine how to put a value on it.

Is green the original color?

I would be thankful for any information you could offer and glad to answer any questions you may have.

You can see more photos at:

Shawn,

The unit you have was used on on-the-farm analysis and maintenance of Ferguson tractors. I would be interested in buying your unit if you can establish a price.

Joe

Joe,

Let me play with the unit for a while and do some more research. I’ll give you a price the first of the year.

I will however entertain offers. The unit is in SW-VA. Where in the world are you?

Thanks,
Shawn

I am very interested in your Ferguson On Farm Service unit; I saw one sell for $300 and one sell for $400 at the FENA show last summer at Mt. Pleasant, Ia. The one at FENA was an older modlel I would guess as it was painted gray and I don`t think it had as many gauges etc as yours shows. Does this unit have a air compressor or is this the engine you think is missing?
I live in Ia but would be willing to pay shipping or probably drive out to pick up if we can agree on price. Lee

Shawn,

I'm in Iowa so the distance might be a challenge. I honestly have no idea what such a unit is worth. Obviously, a lot depends on the condition. I have seen a couple of these units before but never had opportunity to visit with the owners to find out more about them.

Regards,

Joe

Thanks for the replies.
This unit is missing the air compressor. I am not sure but I think it may have had both a gas engine and an air compressor.

I will follow up these posts after a few more weeks of research regarding anything else I have learned and my thoughts on selling the unit.

Thanks Again,
Shawn

Shawn, I believe what you have there would be of real interest (and thus value) to a die hard Ferguson collector. It appears to be a dwell-tach for checking ot the point settng and setting the high and low idle settings. In addition there is a vacuum guage/fuel pressure guage and a unit to load the generator and check it's out put. There is also a pneumatic powered spark plug cleaner on the side (at least that's what I think it is). I would imagine this was something that a dealer used for on farm servicing of the Ferguson machines. It's interesting to note that I have most of these things myself but they will fit in a container the size of a lunch box!
Good Luck in finding a buyer.

Thank you for your posts!

OK, to take my post a step further. I was told that it had a gas engine at one time but it is no longer on the unit.

The unit was shipped with the following Accessories:
Timing Light Sun Model X
Dwell Techometer Model CB-14
Voltometer & Ampmeter Model GA-16
Vacuum Tester Model Q
Compression Tester Model P
Spark Plug Adapter 14MM
Vixen Spark Cleaner
Schrader Air & Water Tire Gauge Model 9350
Hand Tachometer Jones Motorola
2800-K Paint Spray Gun & Cup
25’ Air Hose
Tire Adapter
And a Blow Gun

I don’t know how many of the accessories have made the 50-year trip intact. I have not had this unit long and I am just starting my research. My first rule is “Do No Harm” so I’m taking it slow.

Once again I am thankful for any information you can offer and glad to answer any questions you may have

Thanks,
Shawn Andrews

I see there is a switch for testing at 5000 rpm - that must be for the rare TR420, the one with the Triumph engine option :)

Thanks for the reply,

You may be closer than you think. The manual has the setting that you would use for tuning all kinds of strange things like Austin, DeSoto, Nash, Kaiser, Packard, Reo, Studebaker and so-on, nothing after 1951 though.

I don’t see Triumph but I’ll bet there is a conversion chart somewhere;-)

Thanks Again,
Shawn
