Hi Bill
I have checked with 2 reference books one being issued by Massey Ferguson and they say the first TE 20 was built in 1946 and was built upto 1948.
In the first year 315 were made but at the end of 1948 77772 had been made but this is going by serial numbers and the TEA was first built in 1947 so that would account for some of the s/n.

I have just found a reference to the fact that the TE and TEA were built side by side up to s/n 48000

If it's total number of TE tractors, fitted with all types of engines and construction variants then the last serial no. was 517651.

The following is the full list of variants

TE-20 Continental Z-120 petrol 1946-48 TEA-20 Standard (STD) Petrol 1947-56 TEB-20 Narrow w/Continental 1946-48 TEC-20 Narrow w/Standard 1948-56 TED-20 STD V.O vaporized oil 1949-56 TEE-20 STD V.O Narrow 1946-56 TEF-20 STD Diesel 1951-56 TEH-20 STD Zero octane engine 1950-56 TEJ-20 STD Zero Octane Narrow 1950-65 TEK-20 STD Petrol Vinyard 1952-56 TEL-20 STD V.O. Vinyard 1952-56 TEM-20 STD Zero Octane Vinyard 1952-56 TEP-20 STD Petrol Industrial 1952-56 TER-20 STD V.O. Industrial 1952-56 TES-20 STD Lamp Oil Industrial 1952-56 TET-20 STD Diesel Industrial 1952-56

Hope this is of help.
