My recently purchased TE20 has a PTO shaft that appears to have never been used. My question is about the size of the splined shaft. It is one inch in outside diameter and does not appear to be the same size of my old 8N shaft. If I want to run a bush hog how do I get a bigger PTO spline and how extensive and expensive is the change.

you can change the complete shaft with a newer one or get an adapter sleeve that fits on the 1 and 1 and 1/8 shaft or get an overrunning coupler. .

On a bush hog, the inertia of the blade spinning will drive the transmission after you step on the clutch, causing the tractor to keep moving forward even though you wish it wouldn't. This can be quite dangerous at times.
You can get a device that is like a ratchet called an over running clutch, (or maybe over running coupler); perhaps you already know about these. Highly recommended for overcoming the above problem and very conveniently you can get them with the inside diameter the same as your tractor (nominally 1 1/8"), and the outside diameter the more modern 1 3/8" size that will fit your bush hog. Price of the ORC depends where you live. In Canada you can get them for about $72 Cdn which is about $55 US; I don't know how much they are in other hemispheres but I'm sure you can get them; mine is made in India.

You can also get a cheap adapter to the larger size. A tractor dealers can probaly get you one, or maybe NAPA. Most of the tractors that I see have been converted to the larger size. alvinnms
