It seems that I remember someone hear saying that vinegar will remove rust. I've got some parts soaking in white vinegar and there doesn't seem to be any change. How long does this take.

Thanks.

I've had a lot of luck with acid based oven cleaner. Check the "Caution" info on the can. This stuff sprays a foamy mixture. Let it set awhile and wash off. Repeat as necessary. When using be sure to be up wind. Nasty stuff but works! I buy mine at a discount store for 99 cents a can.

Sulphuric acid (battery acid) removes rust quite well but its dangerous to work with.

There's been previous postings about using Washing Soda and a Battery Charger to remove rust. I've recovered numerous tools ((yard sale rejects)) and brought them back to useful life using this system. And its cheap!!

search the archives for electrolysis especially on the tractor talk and JD forums. This process has been discussed at lenght. It does work very well.

Vinegar is a de-limer.It removes calcium deposits...not rust.
