hydraulic turbulance

I have pulled the covers on my 1951 TO30. I see no leaks and have read the postings regarding the turbulance around the hydraulic pump. The only turbulance I see, seems to be in the center of the pump. Most postings talking about the turbulance on one side or the other.
How much is to much or is this normal in the center?

Thanks in advance!

That is normal turbulence from the pump movement. Do you have a problem or just curious?

Phil,
Thanks for the response, I am having problems, my lift will not hold the weight of my 5' blade even for a bit. The fluid looks milky, maybe it just needs changed? I could not see any fluid coming from the cylinder and that was the only turbulance I could see with the engine running and PTO in gear. I also use a 9" post hole digger and at time it will hardly pull it out of the ground.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,Lee

Lee,

If you don't see any leaks or turbulence anywhere, I suspect your fluid could have a lot of water in it if it is milky as you say. I would definitely drain and clean up the pump and cavities holding the fluid and change the relief valve. This valve may be releasing too early and not allowing full pressure to be attained. If it is you might see some turbulence in the back of the pump, but since it sits near the bottom of the pump housing it may not make any waves near the surface. The other main culprit is the work cylinder in the top under the seat, but you should see some fluid draining down when your implement is raised up. I recommend you get an overhaul manual and then go at it!

Thanks again Phil. I plan on draining the fluid this weekend and cleaning things up a bit before I refill. I will let you know how it works out.

Thanks again!
Lee

I changed the fluid, cleaned the pump area and adjusted the quadrant settings. I did not change the pressure valve, yet.
The hydraulics still sits down pretty quickly, although better. I also noticed a small leak under the seat, just under the allen bolt fitting. Could the gaskets inside be causing this problem?

Thanks,
Lee
