I purchased a 1949 Ferguson Tractor and the fuel tank has a leak. The leak is located near the weld on the bottom of the tank where it meets the stopcock. I've tried using JB Weld and it worked for about 5 hours of use, but the crack is back. Is there a tank sealer that will work to seal either the inside or outside of the tank?

Took mine to a radiator shop. It was not cheap. Cost about $50 but no worries now mate! He put some tough black stuff on the outside and then coated the inside. Figure the fix will last another 50 plus years.

I would use a fuel tank liner such as Johnson's or POR 15. That should seal it up for good. You could get someone to weld it but you would have to find someone who knows what they are doing.

There are sealants you can use that seal pinholes from the inside of the tank - POR 15 is one, at least that is what it is called over here - you could try a search for it.

Anything bigger than that I would try brazing the tank or using plumbing solder to seal it - after several good washes out with powerful detergent and then when it is full of water (or better yet, CO2).

Whatever fix you use will need to be flexible, which JB isn't, and that is why your repair gave up.

Go to the Ford section and look up a post for a 641 tank problem. Your answer is there and I think the name of the product is POR 15 @ $19/qt. Pricey, but worth it.
