I inadvertantly grounded out my positve wire when installing new lights on my to30. Now she wont start. It will turn over but I am not getting any spark. Are the points readily available? Is this the problem? I changed my coil with no help and now figure it is the points and or condenser but am not sure any ideas?? would a auto parts store have the points?? what do I ask for??/

brian,

I'd check the wiring really closely. You might have burned out a wire. When you short something out like that, the high current loads usually heat the smallest wires, and melt the copper and the insulation. As Greg pointed out, the high current also went through your ignition switch. If you have a volt meter, ground one probe on the battery ground and check for voltage through your wiring and across your ignition switch.

You can find points at NAPA, at the parts place on this website, and at a Massey Ferguson dealer, etc. They are not hard to find.

Hope this helps.

Most Auto parts stores (NAPA) have or can get you the points. I really dont think the Dist. is your Problem, I would look to the Ing. Switch this is where the grounded wire heat went to.

Thanks for the info guys. I changed the condenser and then the points and she fired right up. I doublechecked everything like you said and all was fine.Do either of you by chance know what the ammeter should be readingwhen the motor is running?

A normal ammeter reading would be just to right of center, about 3-5 amps.
