I noticed gas was spewing out of the breather hole on the gas tank cap. What would cause the fuel to be under enough pressure to create a spewing fountain of gas? I did not measure the temperature, but does anyone know what is the boiling point for gas?

All fluids (and most solids) need room to expand as they heat up, so it is necessary to leave adequate expansion space in the top of the gas tank, the radiator, the battery, etc. Any time these are filled even close to the top, heat expansion will push the fluid out. How do you know when you have left enough expansion space? When the fluid doesn't come out anymore. However, if the tank is, say, filled only half full and still boiling and or spewing, then you have other problems; perhaps a missing heat baffle under the tank, overheating due to lugging the engine, clogged cooling system, etc.
