Found an old TO-20 block & main bearings(no crankshaft) out in the boonies. Farmer says it's from a 50/51 model. of course it's cracked between the cylinders. Also found oil pan, governor cover, & assorted small parts. No head. Is there a good, permanent method to repair the block, ie welding, etc? Is it WORTH the trouble?

Danny

Danny... If the block hasn't been laying out and not to rusty it is repairable... Welding by an expert is the best method... You know good Ferguson blocks are as scarce as hen's teeth....

Danny,
Check the N-Board Archives under Zane. He has a TO-20 with a cracked block. He repaired his without welding or bolts through the block. He gives a pretty fair discription of how he did it.

I have a 1948 TO-20 with chewed up crankshaft rod bearings. They measure way below minimum diameter. Apparently the oil channel to the rod bearings got blocked.

As far as I know everything else on the tractor works fine, I feel no play in the main bearings. though the oil seals leak somewhat. I am told that commercial repair would be prohibitively expensive and I don't currently have time or practice at such work.

Before the bearing problem it ran well with good power and economy.

This beast is located in Idaho.

Any suggestions as to what I can do with this poor old machine?
