I tried to start my TO-20 and the battery started sizzling. I took my voltmeter and checked everything and then I took switch to check for connectivity. I had connectivity from the positive post on my starter to the neg. side of my battery. I checked on an MG I'm rebuilding and it didn't have connectivity there. I took my starter apart and 2 brush springs are broke. I'm going to look for a place to rebuild it in Nashville tomorrow but on my MG Midget's, an Isuzu trooper starter bolts right up. Is there any cross over to the TO-20 starter like the Isuzu starter to the Midget? I just want it to start, it doesn't have to be an origninal part.

Thanks

Hi Darryl. Even if there somewhere exists a starter that will interchange, it would still be more cost effective to rebuild the origional. Good luck, have fun!

First off it's continuity not connectivity, and if you still have a 6 volt system, it has a positive ground, so the negative side of the battery goes to the only post on the starter.
Do you have the battery in backwards?? That could be the reason for the sizziling.

It's a 12 volt system with Neg. Ground.

If you find a replacement starter I will be happy to take the old core off your hands. Somebody stole mine this winter while the tractor sat idle.
