Bob first take off the stops or locks they are on the rim rails to keep the center disk from shifting should be on two of the rails. then loosen the four big nuts that hold the brackets on the rails by doing this it releases the pressure you will then be able to get on the tractor and hold the opposite brake move tractor forward or reverse depending which way you what the tread. if you put your stops in place to where you want the width the rim will side out to where you want it, then place the other stop behind it and tighten the for large bolts agian.

I understand..but the four big nuts are stuck, must have been tightened with an air wrench...I was wondering if I removed the eight nuts holding the brackets whether the hub would come out of the rim so that I can remove and soak/beat/whatever to free up the clamps..

I was thinking... (Yes, I know that can be dangerous. ;-)

What if you back off all the bolts and soak everything in Liquid Wrench, let it sit a day or several, then take it out on a paved road (for traction) and work each side using the individual brake pedals? I read that you're supposed to work the sliders using the brakes normally anyway...
