I just bought an old Fergie - its still in the field needing a new distributor cap and wires. The name plate is very hard to read but the stamped serial number is A157300. The plate says: Standard Motor co Ltd., Coventry England.
It has a Lucas starter(M4186 V139 1 6V), a Lucas distributor and a Delco-Remy(6C21 12V Neg)altenator(?) and a 12 volt battery. Hand written on the top of gas tank is M # 2085. The shift pattern on the transmission housing includes an "S" on the upper right but a keyed ignition has been added to the dash. What Model is this tractor?

They came with a keyed ignition switch originally. After turning the key to on, you then engaged the starter with the gearshift lever. That serial number indicates the earlier engine with 80 mm pistons, which you may find referred to as a TEA20-80 so as to distinguish it from the later TEA20-85.
For cap and wires try your local United Auto Parts. The one around here (Carleton Place) carries fast moving parts such as these for the Fergies. For spark plugs you can use NGK B6HS.

It's a TEA-20. Someone has converted it to 12 volts.

Is this Belleville in Illinois?

Does an alternator tell me if they made an informed (complete)conversion? I'm concerned they may have just stuck a 12 volt battery into the tractor. The coil doesn't appear to have any details or name on it so I can't tell if it is 6 or 12 volt. The starter appears to be 6 volt - does that matter on a 12 volt system?

I'm in Belleville Ontario.

If it's still a Lucas coil it will have numbers stamped on the bottom identifying whether it's 6 or 12 volt.

An alternator means it's 12 volts. The starter doesn't care much if it's 12 or 6. Be careful not to overheat it. Your distributor and coil are probably still 6v as well.
