To all TO-xx model tractor users,

The Zane Thang is the way to go. It literally installs in a few minutes. Works better than advertised. Below is the message I sent to Mr. Sherman regarding the Zane Thang after I installed and used it for a while..... ...

Just wanted to let you know I installed the Zane Thang on by '54 Ferguson TO-30 and it has been GREAT. I was so aggravated with the 3-point raising and lowering by itself while grading, bushogging, etc. I was seriously thinking about getting rid of the tractor. Now I don't have to do that. Thanks again, David

Made two of them. They definately work nice. Not having an extra 160 bucks to invest in Zane Thangs I spent an other wise wasted evening and built mine from materials laying around my shop. I would highly recommend building your own,if for no other reason, for the personal satisfaction of "doing it yourself".

Good Luck!

Thanks guy's, that helped. I have a belt, just need to find a stronger spring, but I'll get it. I too made the control because of the $$$ thing. To bad we can't all have the bucks to get all the "good" stuff, huh?

My home made one ,I used a piece of rubber round baler belt and I cut it into a friction disk. The spring was just some junk lying around. You need to double nutor use a jam nut to keep the spring tight.

I would have been glad to have bought a Zane thang, but I did'nt have the $$$ at the time.

Not exactly sure about the TO-30 so i will explain how i did it on a 9N.
Before hooking up the link to the new friction disk, reduce the tension on the quadrant friction disk. Put just enough tension on the quadrant friction disk so that the handle does not move around on it's own.
Now set the new friction disk spring fairly tight and hook up the link to the quadrant handle.
What you want is MORE friction on the new disk THAN on the quadrant disk. If you can't get the new friction disk tight enough use a spring with a thicker wire diameter. To work properly, when the lift arm moves it should not slip on the new friction disk but rather slip on the quadrant disk and move the quadrant handle. Also, the new friction disk should not be so tight that you are not able to move the quadrant handle.
