My solution to getting stuck Bushhogging

I do some extreme bush-hogging, and I always get stuck. My rear wheels go into a ditch, and the hog hangs up on the ground. Then I have no traction.
My solution: when I get stuck, replace the top link of the 3 point with a come-along, and crank the hog up off the ground, and then drive out. Then lower the hog, and replace the 3 point link.
Seems pretty simple, but took me a while to figure it out. Hope this helps somebody out there.
Paul

I've done something similar, but not with a come-along.

I remove the top link, then get out my log chain. (Always carry one)

I drop the 3 point arms down as far as they'll go. Then I loop the chain under both pins where the top link was, and shorten it up as tight as I can. This in effect makes a very short top link.

Ya gota be careful to NOT flip the tractor over backwards when you don't have a solid top link. That's a good way to get yourself killed.

Hmmm, Xtreme Bush Hogging - is that some kind of new sport you guys have over there (j/k).

Seriously, like others have said, I prefer not to get stuck - but have still managed to do so in some unlikely places. Nuff said.

Afternoon Paul

I think it would be better if you didnt get stuck at all, much safer. I will note your solution to get out. Thanks Barry

I learned a long time ago, as a farm kid, to avoid getting tractors stuck. You develop kind of a sense after a while as to what your machine can and cannot handle.

I'll never forget having the Case Agri-King 970 stuck halfway up the rear axles with a 15 foot disc harrow behind it. We got it out by unhooking the harrow and pulling with a smaller 4WD tractor. :-)

Not getting stuck is preferable.
What was I thinking.
The problem is, with the bucket in front, and not being able to see the ground contour due to the blasted Palmettos, it does happen more than I care to admit.

I always found that loaders are the worst thing to have on a tractor when you're doing field work. You can't see where you're going and they have to be kept low so you don't roll over the tractor. Probably the best intermediate solution is to remove the bucket so you can see a little more.
