I JUST GOT A TEA 20. THE PLATE ON THE DASH SAYS TEA204252 SO IS THE SERIAL # 4252 OR 204252

Your serial number is what it says on the plate - where do you get the 4252 from?

He got the 4252 from the serial number.....

TEA204252. He was not sure if the serial number read TEA 204252 or TEA20 4252.

Patrick, you have one of the tractors with a confusing SN... but it is correctly read. Model "TEA" SN "204252"

This makes your tractor a 1951 model TEA20-85, the -85 means you have the larger bored out engine cylenders giving it more power than the straight TEA. This is important to know if you have to do any piston work.

Thanks for the replies.Jeff is right about how I was reading the number. This tractor was given to me and is in great shape, and runs great also. Being a 51 it was "BORN" the same year as I was .

The TE was manufactured in England with the same components as it's American counterpart with the exception of the electrical components like starter, gererator, lights and switchs. These were made by Lucas instead of Delco-Remy.

The first TE-20's made in England had the Z-120 Continental engine that was made in the United States until Standard Motor Company of England got their plant up and running their new engine for the British made TE-20. This was the same engine that Triumph used in it's TR-2 car. It was similar to the Z-120 in configuration and horse power.

The Standard Engine was in fact made for the Vanguard car and van, the Triumph TR wasnt even thought of at this time, it was still the old Roadster with a different engine completely. The Continental engine was used in the tractor from 1946 till 1948 and for 12 months approx. both engines were used till serial # 48,000

Our TE 20 had the Lucas electric system and the z120 Continental engine. I dont remember if we bought it in 1947 or 48. We lived in Nebraska at the time.

If it was made in England (TE) it would have Lucas electrics they didnt fit Delco here at all unless they had shortages.
