Just a city boy here turning country! I bought a TO20 last month to cut my new place..(5 acres)..
The tractor runs fine except that the exhaust manifold has a hole (complete break actually) on the left side of the pipe. I see there are many places I can get a new manifold. The problem is that my manifold looks to be just a bit different than what's offered. All the bolt and port arrangements are the same but the intake/exhaust pipes seems to be reversed compared to what's available. Are there/was there a couple different styles of exhaust manifolds that fit/fitted the TO20? I just want to be sure before I buy what is recommended that I will be getting the right thing. I can send to whomever replies to this posting, a picture via email to show you what I'm talking about.
Many Thanks,
Nick

I tto have seen rhe "new" manifolds and think they do not look as good. I have an original and have had it repaired several times just to keep it looking original. I talked to one man who did the castings for some and he said that he researched it carefully to get it as close as posible. But to me it looked like he followed a newer design or tried to cover too many models.

Just me 2 cents worth.

Nick, I replaced the manifold on my TO-20 last Winter. The new manifold I got had a slightly different casting style, or shape, and the exhaust flange was a flat bolt flange instead of the old style. Don't know if the casting change was due to "modern" manufacturing techniques, standardization of parts, or whetever. At first I thought they sent the wrong manifold, but it came with a conversion flange to convert the exhaust to the original style, the ports were correct, and it mated-up nicely to everything.
I installed it, it works good. I still think the new style looks kind-of dorky compared to the original style.
I cleaned, then painted the new manifold with bright aluminum hi-temp manifold paint before installing it. Had to cure the paint in the oven, stunk-up the house, made the wife mad, but man did it look good! When I painted my tractor, I painted over the manifold paint with the tractor enamel. After running it a while, the enamel on the exhaust half of the manifold has turned brown/black, blistered-up and starting to peel, leaving the shiny hi-temp paint underneath...looks "interesting". By the end of Summer, I'm guessing all the enamel will have burned-off the exhaust portion leaving the shiny hi-temp paint. That will look interesting too! I have heard several guys that use black hi-temp paint... That's your call. Sorry for the long reply, that's my story, I'm sticking with it. Good luck.

Nick,

There is only one set-up of intake and exhuast ports on the TO-20. 1st verift that your engine has not been changed out over the years. A TO-20 should have a contential Z120 engine in it. You can check the left hand side of the engine near the bottom will read "Z120 A 300".

The "traditional" configuration is for the intake, card side to be at the center below the manifold. The output is to the rear, also pointing down.

Hope this helps.
Jeff

Yes, Jeff...It's the Z-120 Continental. I guess the little conversion flange with the replacement
manifold will let it all match up. Thanks for the help.

When you put the manifold on, torque everything down tight and run the engine till everything gets hot. Then retighten the bolts. You'll have to do this at least twice or it will leak.
