A couple of weeks back I posted a query about my front axle being odd, in that it appeared to not be original (it was painted silver with red hubs originally) and had grease fittings in the dust caps. Fred OH responded, wondering about casting numbers etc. So here"s what I found: The most legible casting number I"ve found on the axle is 15324S along the lower edge with the letters JGSB above it, and a number that appears to be 304251 along the upper edge. The dust caps are heavy steel or cast iron with the zerk fitting machined into them and not the ends of the actual spindles. Looks like a factory job to me. If that can help you help me Fred OH, thanks in advance. Anyone else"s thoughts would be appreciated also. Happy Trails!

I don"t know if this will help or hinder but I got a replacement "dust cap" after mine died following a nasty front wheel bearing failure incident.

The after-market replacement was exactly as you describe - and I think a better solution than the original hubs which were filled with oil, and often leaked.

I"ve never seen (or looked) for any casting marks on my front axle, but will try to look later today if possible. If I find anything that will help I"ll post later.
