I am just starting a rebuild of my tractor and am wondering where in the world I could find valve stem caps? The engine had a valve job in the early eightys and only 5 out of eight of them were put back on. I may not need them but the tractor has run good with them and I would like to put it back to the way it came from the factory.

I called the MF dealer about caps when I thought I had lost mine. They told me they could not get them, but a machine shop could make them, or I could find caps that would work from a suitable car engine. Luckily, I found my baggie of stem caps so I didn't need them after all. I think one of the MF service guys said he thought caps from old Chevy would work. That's all I know.
I think all you really need are caps with the same stem diameter, and make sure the caps are not so deep that they ride on the pins. Maybe you can take a cap to a auto parts store, and find caps with the same stem diam. to fit your stems, or be close enough to file or grind down to fit.
Good luck!

I took a piece of tool steel and a flat bottom drill and made mine in a lathe. Just shot for a 1/16" thickness and then heated to medium cherry red and quenched in water...(if I"m not mistaken.) A file wouldn"t touch them so they got the job and are working fine. Their job isn"t too strenuous so leaving them that hard shouldn"t hurt a thing. Fred OH
