About a year ago I had to replace my TO 20 starter with a rebuilt starter. I had that starter on the tractor for 30 years. I took it apart and the problem was that the large spring was broken. I had previously converted to 12 volt system. The rebuilt replacement has been on for 1 year and quit. The problem was the same spring. Two questions: 1. Did the 12 volt conversion cause the broken springs? 2. Is it possible to buy just this spring and where? Thanks

Hi Bill... the chances of the 12 volt conversion causing a bendix spring failure are extreemly slim. Any good auto electric shop should be able to supply a spring that will work, whether it's from a ferguson or something else. Many times rebuilt starters and other electric components will use any good parts insetad of replacing them. The spring was likely working at the time of rebuild and was re-used. Good luck, have fun!!
