I have been looking over my new 1951 TO30 (I now know this because of the help I had with the ID from this site.) Anyhow, the hydralics are full of water contaimination, (white oil) I have been told this is common on old tractors that have been left out. Can I just drain this, refill it, run it a while and drain it again? What is the best way to clean this up and bring the hydralics to life again. This fella runs great but set out for a couple years. I really don"t want to get into rebuilding that whole system if I don"t have too.

I also have a leaking main seal, but I am sure that I can take care of this easy enough.

Hey, Jeff-oh... Thanks for the reply, I read your links, especially the one to Rob. Sounds like a great plan and kinda lines up with what an older fella I know said. I will follow your procedure and let you know how it turns out. I have all the necessary resources to do it all! Thanks again, this site is GREAT!

Jerry,

If you fluid has oil in it then you want to clean all the oil out, else you will contaminate the new oil. This means drain all three sumps several days. While it's drained it is a good time to renue the PTO seals, and the cover plate seals.

A good tool to seat the PTO seal is a 2" PVC coupler. It is the right diameter, at least for a MF50, through 165. Should work for you too.

I would not refil until clean else it will cost you a fortune.

Many post recently about right oil NAPA 65-205.

Also see this link on washing procedure. It is also just discussed today on the N board.

Jeff
