Hi, i am from Finland and have a problem starting my Ferguson TEF20 -55.
The problem is to start from the gear shift, the movement to the starter is about 10mm to short?.
If i pull the arm to the starter by hand directly it works, and the engine starts.
Is there possible something wrong in the gearbox?
A have adjusted the arm to the starter as long as possible, but it doesent work, 10 mm is missing.

With best regards Dennis Lindholm, Finland

It sounds as though the "dog clutch" arrangement on the gear lever linkage mounted on top of the clutch housing has broken, this is usually due to incorrect adjustment of the pilot switch on the starter itself. You need to remove the housing and linkage from the top of the clutch housing and and check just what is actually broken. The chances of finding such a part are a bit remote, but it would be easy enough to get one made. Be careful that you dont drop the rod from the gear lever into the clutch housing when you lift the lever housing off the clutch housing. When you reset the switch, it should JUST make contact at the end of the travel when you press the gear lever.

Have you slackened the screws holding the switch / boot onto the starter? The switch bracket is slotted and will slide to bring switch closer to lever. There could be wear on the mechanism in the bell housing, haven"t had trouble with these up to now. The last one where I couldn"t get enough adjustment I put a blob of weld onto the lever, worked fine afterwards.
