What is the best way to attach a hitch to my 1947 TO20? I want to be able to pull a hay wagon. Thanks fo any suggestions.

Under the rear of the tractor are 4 holes, maybe they have setscrews in them, maybe not, but that is where they fasten the hitch for heavy loads. The easiest way is to use the drawbar that fits on the linkage.

John is right the drawbar is easy, and with staybars it works well with lightish loads on it - BUT be careful - if your trailer noseweight goes too high the front wheels will get light and the tractor can 'sit up and beg' which can in turn induce a sphincter-twitching moment :)

Me? No, never had that happen on a Fordson Power Major.

Personally I favour the pukka drawbar (or alternatively the pick-up hitch) which bolts on underneath the axle as it keeps the leverage exerted by the trailer more directly underneath the back axle. It is a case of 'horses for courses' and you choose your hitch method accordingly - they both have advantages.

From memory the 4 holes under the rear axle are 5/8 UNF threaded.

John,

If you think of my brain as a colander, then the number of holes remains constant - its just that the holes get bigger as I get older . . .

LOL
