I recently decided to convert my '49 TO-20 to 12 volts for several reasons, not the least of which was the convenience of a 12 volt battery. The old Fergie was the only thing I owned powered by 6 volts. My experience with modern day 6 volt batteries has not been good. The only dilemna I faced was my desire to keep my beloved old Fergie as original as I could. So I had the original 6-volt generator rewound to 12 volts, installed a 12 volt voltage regulator made for a 1957 Buick, changed the light bulbs to 12 volts, installed an Interstate 12 volt battery that will also work in my old Buick in a pinch. Last, but not least, I installed an Ignitor electronic ignition system, and opened up the plug gap to .040. Runs like a top, generator provides plenty of juice and it still looks original, with no hacked-up alternator hanging off the engine. Just thought I'd share my experience. All the best..... ...P
