i have a 1951 to-30 with z-129 engine i am in the prosses of completly rebuilding and i have found that alot of the internal parts have z-120xxx stamped on them. cam, crank, connecting rods, timing gears, timing gear cover, ect..... . i am sure this is a z-129 engine it is stamped on the block z126a600. just wanted to know if some of you guys that have been into these engines have seen this. are these parts supossed to z120xxx on them or is this engine odd? thanks for any replies as i'm kind of confused. i know that theese are probably casting numbers and not the actual part number. billy

A Ray, IN said, a lot of the casting numbers are the same . You need to look at the parts manual and the part numbers to see the differences. the major difference is the stroke, the TO-30 having a 1/8" longer stroke than the TO-20. The cam is different, with the TO-30 having about 15 degrees less duration on the intake stroke and the timing being 1 degree later. The head is differenton the TO-30 with the intake valves significantly larger. you will find all the info about the difference in the Ferguson shop manual.

The Z120, Z129, Z134 Continental engines are very very similar. The main difference is the cylinder bore. The stroke, valve train, camshaft, etc, seem to be the same. The Z120 has the oil filter inside the crankcase, the others use an external filter. The MF shop manual contains a specifications chart that is too large to retype.
