OK, I'll jump in here on the basis that if I'm wrong or have missed something someone will tell me!! If it is difficult to get into reverse from any forwards gear, or vice versa, I would suspect that one or more of your gear selector rods has moved/slipped - possibly as part of high torque in the gearbox. This is not too serious, and you can adjust/reset the selector fork positions by taking the top off the gearbox. If the gears grind when you are trying to engage a gear, with the clutch down, then your clutch is at fault, not the gearbox, so try adjusting that, too. Follow the manual - the Ferguson one - for more info. I have never yet heard of anyone doing the "Grey ghost" any serious gearbox damage from ploughing - snapped half shafts, yes. Gearboxes, no. Others older and greyer than me may have heard different, but even our tractor drivers couldn't kill our old TED when my parents were farming. Clutches burned, brakes went, but that was about it. Some on this board use TEs for pulling - no gearbox complaints there either that I have read about. Don't assume the worst - they are pretty indestructible. HTHTIYOOL :) (Hope this helps to improve your outlook on life)
