I have a F-40 and need advice on plow size. Never used a tractor before and have been looking at 2 bottom but wonder if i could use a 3 bottom. I will eventually be plowing in the UP of Michigan-sandy soil. Thanks

For what it's worth. I recently had a similar choice to make... Single or two bottom for my
TO-20. My soil was never before plowed, hard
packed (from years of horse abuse), Missouri
clay. I finally decided to go with the two bottom
plow. My TO-20 handled it with ease. I am inclined to believe that you would be ok with
a 3 bottom.

Where are you finding sandy soil in the U.P. of Michigan????

My parents/brother/sister-in-law all live in the Eastern U.P. and it's clay - Blue, sticky, slimy, hard-as-a-rock clay.

From my experience in da Yoo-Pee, you should use a three bottom plow. Don't waste any more time than you have to, the growing season is only 30 minutes long anyway (grin).

I'm originally from Iron County. There the soil was mostly peat. Black & rich. Wish I had an acre or two of it down here in northern Alabama!!

Bottom plow and its safety is my interest and I would like to share my knowledge and opinions about this with anyone.
Bottom plow, hydrolic safety and so forth.

Tom.... You should be able to pull three bottoms with ease in your sandy soils. Black heavy gumbo might be a different story....
