Got the news today that the shim I found in my oil pan was a bad sign. No other shims are in place and the cam shaft is scored. The block needs to be built up or replaced along with new shaft. Estimate is about $1000 Cdn. It was suggested I might find another block with OK cam shaft and rebuild it with my working parts. Your thoughts please. Neil

They used to rebush the cylinder block when that happened, it isnt a massively complicated job if you have the right equipment as you need to line-bore the bushes in the block. If they still have that block as suggested in the other mail that would possibly be easiest way to go for you though.

Neil: There was an engine for a te20 sold at the auction at Orser's a couple weeks ago. It appeared OK and complete and was bought by Karten Metals (Trenton) for scrap. They also bought the transmission( completely newly rebuilt including steering box and dash and aluminum casing) in the same package and I bought it from them for scrap price (ie $40). They may still have the engine around.

It gets worse! I misunderstood the mechanic - the cam shaft is $1000 and that doesn't touch anything else. I called the salvage guy and learned that they loaded the stuff from the auction and took it straight to the melting pot. Now I'm looking for a replacement engine or another tractor.
