I have just refitted the gearbox on my TED 20 Ferguson to the backend after replacing the gasket. The problem i have is with the splined tube which couples the gearbox output shaft to the differential input/pinion shaft. When i reach in to the backend with the PTO Lever "port hole" cover removed, i can slide the coupling tube forwards and backwards by 0.25 - 0.5 inch, is this normal? have i missed something during reassembly? the transmision seems to turn over by hand OK with one wheel jacked up. I would be grateful for any help you can give me.

Thanks

There will be some end float in this drive tube and it will vary from one tractor to another. Unfortunatley it is not a shear tube like the later models.FE35 onwards.

It's called the shear tube, it's there to protect the transmission from excessive shock load. Movement is normal

Barry I have my TO-30 lift arm cover off and I think the driveshaft just floats on the splined shafts in there because mine is the same way. Dave
