James

You told me about the spline adaptor for my 1952 TEA. I just called a local supply shop and they asked if I needed a 4inch or a 6 1/2 inch part.

Do you know which one I need? They only have the 6 1/2inch in stock, and he said it would get me going again. Is there any potential problems with using the wrong one?

I can measure the PTO shaft when I get home, but if I can hear from you before I leave work (about 2 hours after this gets posted), I can make the decision today.

I will invest in a manual. Do you recommend an original or have others appeared that are as good?

Thank you.

PS. What does HTH stand for?

Sorry to barge in, but as far as manuals goes James from UK is right and you should also check Big Dean's web site where he sells a CD sharing his career tips over the years he was a mechanic repairing these tractors.
A gold mine of knowledge if you ask me. Fire him off an email asking if he has the CD on your particular model. The price is very affordable.

Here's the link:>Link

OK, here goes, the 4 inch part is just a tube that is splined internally and externally, that slides over your PTO - it is not very robust, in my view.

The 6 1/2 inch version is a more solid affair - and is what I have fitted. So far it has done me well, so I would recommend that version.

If you look at the 6 1/2 inch version, and mentally cut off the wider bit at one end, you will have a rough idea of what the 4 inch version looks like.

No potential problems using the wrong one.

As far as the manual goes, I would not hesitate to go for a reprint of the original Ferguson manual every time - they are about 35GBP over here, but worth every penny for the info and pictures (saves that thinking feeling).

HTH? That's 'Hope This Helps'

Enjoy the festive white frozen stuff.
