TEA20 and trailer hitch

Hi ... I have a '48 TEA20 and have put a 50mm towball on a draw bar to tow my box trailer. The connection is only to the lift arms on the tractor and when I load it up a bit too heavy in the rear, the whole trailer hikes up at the front. Should the hydraulics hold the lift arms down when the the hyd lever is set to down, or does the overload make the hyds go into bypass. Not too much of a problem, but just annoying sometimes if someone even steps onto the rear of the trailer.

You need drawbar stays which you can obtain from BareCo in Australia...If you look at www.bareco.com.au check the dealers location list for your local dealer and order the parts. The part you require are 2 off B141 Stay (MF# 181986M1) and 2 off B141 Stay (MF# 181985M1) you will also need 4 nuts and bolts and washers to fasten them together 7/16" x 1 1/2"(I think I got the length right)

Hello aussie,

The hydraulics only lift - they provide no down force.

To overcome this, you need a couple of 'stay bars' that run from the lower lift arms up to the top link (long and fixed) pin on the rocker arm, one stay bar each side of the drawbar at the trailer end of the lift arms. This prevents the problem you have described.

Good stay bars are adjustable in length so that you can use them with a variety of different trailers/implements, and still set it all up so that the trailer/whatever is level.

Sparex probably does something that will do the job, or you could try your local breakers yard.

Get a swinging drawbar kit. It is more like a car trailer hitch. That would solve your problem. It also sounds like your trailer is not properly balanced. You need some tongue weight.
