Afternoon from Fridged Ontario ( -38 last night ) I have advertised an old 1950"s gas pump on this site and got a response from a guy in the UK. His name is James. ( I wonder if its the same JamesUK that posts in here from time to time ) No matter, this is my 1st time doing this and got a very werid response form the James. Here is what he sent me via e-mail-----

Hello,
Thanks for the mail, I am okay with the price of the Said Item,my mode of payment will be Cashier"s Check. So i have a Business Associates over there in the States that will send you the check of $4,900. So all i want you to do now is to recieve this Payment from my Business Associates and deduct your selling price from the funds and then send the remaining excess funds to the Shipping Company.

You are not to worry about Shipping, I have a reputable Shipping Company that i have been using for long now, so i am sure they will Ship the Item right to the destination i want it shipped. Also they have got a lot in the states and also in Europe to ship ship for me. The remaining excess funds should be sent to the Shipping Company via Western Union Money Transfer and the charges to get Funds transfered to them should be deduct from the excess funds you are sending to them ( Shipping Company).

For this i am compesating you with the sum of $100, so the total amount will be $1300. If you are ready to transact with me, Which i believe you will certainly do, i will want you to provide me with the following details needed for the Payment to get to you :

NAME YOU WANT THE CHECK TO BEAR:..... ..... ..... ..... ...
ADDRESS YOU WANT THE PAYMENT SENT:..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....
PHONE NUMBER:..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ...(Home,Work and Cell)
PAGER NUMBER:..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ... Will await to read from you soonest with the details needed immeidately, so as to facilitate the pace of the transaction. Thanks..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....

Ok is this on the up and up or what?
Barry

The Cashiers Check will be a bogus one and he will ask you to send his money back due to some family emergency. You will of course oblige before the bank has a chance to clear the bogus check and POOF! ...you"ve been taken. Happened to my Stupidvisor selling his 61 Glastron boat. He was out 4 grand. Go for it if you are a stupidvisor too.

I didn"t figure you to be a "stupidvisor" friend. Being Canadian ain"t a bad thing. Too darn cold for my comfort up there though. I like the Texas heat. Later guy and good luck.

BEWARE ! this is a scam !!! I had listed a '52 Chevy 2 ton COE grain truck on Ebay and had the same thing tried from a guy in Africa. Big hassle with Ebay sorting it out. I still have the truck after all.

That's a scam that has been going around here, ebay and other places. Don't do it, that check will bounce (or it's a fake check)and you will be resposible. If he was on the up and up, he would send the shipping company money himself and save himself the $100 he is giving to you, right? Your setting yourself up for a big rip off. Look at some of the other tractor ads. Alot of them say no oversees buyers. That's why, because they don't want to get ripped off.

greetings from balmy Ohio, was a bit warmer at -13 last night.
This sounds like the old scam where someone from overseas sends you "extra" money, and you wire back the extra ... except the "extra" money is a rubber check - you lose your money.
Be careful!

There is always some miserable wretch trying to twist you out of your hard earned cash. Unfortunatley human nature being what it is they will get away with this a number of times so they keep trying it. How many times do you see warnings about not opening email attachments from people you dont know or not expecting something from and how many times do people ignore the warnings and open them. They will always find someone who will throw caution to the wind and do exactly what they have been warned against. Anyway guys I think we have this one sorted out and no-one here will deal with him. (I hope)

Good day guys.

I had the same thing yesterday. I had advertised a parts manual on the Ferguson and this fellow came back from Spain. He wanted all the info that Barry has mentioned, but with the following.
3rd party involvement. He was owed by a fellow who would send me a cheque, I was to take out my share and send him the rest. What a scam. I put a spam killer on him. Sent in a report and hopefully he doesn't show up again.

DON'T GO THERE

Morning Folks

Just as I thought. I seems very interested, because I received 3 more e-mails from him yesterday. I asked him why he didnt deal with the shipping company himself? No reply. I told him I lived in Ontario Canada, he didnt care where I lived. So I will just sit tight and see what happens. Thanks for all the advise. Barry
PS - Im not falling for it

Barry this is a Scam.

However, on the 1 in a million that it is legit (Ha!). Tell his that you will only accept a certified check payable in Can.$ drawn from (name bank both in the UK and near you.) and not one where you have an account. That way if they accept the check drawn on their own bank and it later is Bogus then they cannot just raid your account to cover their failure to secure the funds.

Bottom line this is a Scam.
