I went to use my tractor this weekend and I can't get the clutch to disengage all the way to allow me to shift. The pedal is easy to push the first little bit and then firm after that. The 3-point does not move unless I change the setting for height with the lever. I have never had a problem with it before. It always shifted smooth. Any suggestions?

Andre, Try checking your first stage lever bolts they do break. Start by blocking the wheels, remove the key, and coil wire. Then under the tractor you'll see a cover plate directly under the tranny held in place by 4 large bolts, remove them and the cover. Then look for the second stage clutch finger with a light they are 5/16's in size and sloted screw driver head and beveled to the arms. there are three of them and if one breaks you'll have a easy first stage , hard second stage condition, thus making it hard to put in gear . You can with patience and time replace those beveled screws from that inspection hole, but its not easy by any means. The screw goes thru the arm through a small spring then a nut and then into the backing plate....most of the time you will have to replace the spring too because it will bend. When you adjust it just measure( I forget the measurement) from the finger boss to the backing plate, it will be correct, you'll just have to orent your self by looking at it from underneath. you will need a stubby sloted screwdriver, a thin open end 1/2 wrench and a 1/4 drive ratchet& socket and slotted bit to do this from underneath, but it will save you from having to break the tractor into. I have repaired several this way, its hard but is do-able..... let us know what you find, I'll check back in a day or two...

best wishes

Well you may just have to adjust it for ware. It sounds like the release bearing has to much space between it and the release fingers in the clutch pack.

All you need to do is loosen the clamp on your clutch pedal at the release shaft. You'll notice a hole in the end of the release shaft. Stick a screw driver through the hole and rotate the shaft clockwise until you feel the release bearing make contact with the clutch and hold it there. Now move your pedal arm till its 3/8" to 1/2" from the stop and tighten the clamp. I cant remember that measurment exactly but I think it's either 1/2 or 3/8.

Hopefully that will do it for you and the clutch isn't completely worn out.

Ed

PS this is the same for single and dual stage clutches.

The clearance is 3/8" and its very sensitive to that, you need as much movement on the clutch inside as you can get so make sure that the pedal is correct first, may save you a lot of time.
