Lift capacity (lbs) of 3-pt on a TO-20?

I am thinking of either buying or fabricating a dirt-scoop/carry-all kind of attachment to the 3-pt lift of my TO-20 tractor. I would like to carry different kinds of matterials on it (even some small boulders), but dont want to over-load or damage the lift in any way. I cant seem to find in any of my manuals what the lift capacity is of the 3-pt. Many people "guess", but I'm wondering if anyone actually knows?. If not, can the 3-pt lift be damaged if trying to lift to heavy of a load?, or can I just use "common-sense" that if the lift is starting to have a hard time lifting something that I should just back it off a bit!

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Usually the front wheels will lift before the lift quits or the valve blows. You can't hurt it. But you can get hurt, i.e., if the front wheels come up at bad moment like when you are already going uphill or onto trailer, or bouncing over a log, etc.

Marlowe is correct in what he tells you, a Hydraulic system in reasonable order will lift about 800lbs at the end of the lower links. The nearer to the tractor you can get, the more it will lift and it will also keep the front end on the floor. You cant overload the hydraulics because the safety valve will blow, but you must not keep the valve blowing it is for safety only not for continual discharge. If it keeps blowing it will wear and reduce the pressure and so it will not lift as much.

you can NOT hurt any thing you can't lift because the releafe valve will stop the lift and i lift 800 + lbs with all 5 of my 20s 3 of them will lift the front wheels of the ground other two are not as strong but i have not work on them yet
