Can anyone tell me what kind of oil pressure I should be running at with my TEA-20.

Alex

A buddie of mine said they used to take the cover off and sand it flat and replace it, taking care of the pressure. Have any of you heard this?

An engine in good condition should run at between 40 and 60psi oil pressure. If it is running low, have you changed the oil and oil filter, the oil should be SAE40, this can vary in very hot or very cold climates. There is an adjustment on top of the oil filter, if you screw it in slightly it will raise the pressure the oil filter relief valve blows off at, if it makes no difference then there is wear in the engine. It is also possible that the engine oil pump is worn and it requires an Rotor pack in the pump. The secret is to keep the oil changed in these engines.

At start up I do have 50lbs. It is after working the tractor and the engine heats up that it drops below 10lbs. I am in the process of changing the journal bearings....is there any way I can check the pump before I re-assemble it?

You will probably have the pump off right now, turn the rotor with a screwdriver down the shaft while the pickup tube is immersed in oil see how it pumps that way. Really though if you are doing all that to the engine for what it costs it is worth changing the oil pump rotor pack just to be sure. MF part number 827501M91 or Sparex number S61996.
