Is it normal for my TEA-20 to not want to shift to neutral after depressing the clutch pedal. I know it happens under load but I'm sure it happens even when not under load.

I have had it happen and know of others. If it's locked up and I reach down and take the pump out of gear and it works, it ain't busted so I''m not going to fix it. lol If its supposed to or not, I just know it's worked for me and as a hobby user that's ok with me. $.02 Bill

Hi Alex

It may happens when hydraulic is on it"s way up with an implement attached...
there is a load when the hydraulic pump is working
to raise..next time you may try to push down the
hydraulic lever.

Once the Hydraulic Pump stops pumping for any reason and there is pressure in the system it is held on the check valve and the Control Valve to a lesser degree not the pump itself. If you think about it, all the tractors we had fitted with loaders we should have had endless problems with that.

No its not normal, it should change smoothly and easily. Is the free play in the clutch pedal OK. it should be 3/8" under the footrest. If this is correct and it still does it you may find that the clutch plate itself is contaminated with oil possibly, so it doesn't slip as it should do and causes some drag on the transmission which will hold it in gear.

Thanks again John for all the advice...what do you think about the theory....releiving the hydraulic pressure?

Well I have driven these tractors in most conditions, both as a demonstrator as well as working on the mechanical side and it has never been a problem I have encountered before. As I said in that previous posting, once the pump stops for any reason, any load that it was pumping is relieved from the actual pump part and taken on the Check Valve on the end of the Relief valve, so actually at that stage there is no load on the pump itself. I am sure your problem is to do with the clutch plate dragging for one reason or another, either it has oil on it or maybe even the plate itself is buckled slightly. This can be caused if someone fits a new plate using bolts on the two halves of the tractor, actually pulling it together and not using them simply as guides, what happens is they push the drive hub out of true in the centre so it wont run perfectly straight any longer, usually though it is oil on the plate. If you press the pedal it should free the plate and the drive to the gearbox.
