The power lift control lever on my TO20 began to be hard to go up and down about a month ago when I was drilling post holes. In fact I broke the control lever off the friction plate. I finally got a new plate and cork disk installed today. Teh control lever continues have this same resistance. The lever will raise and lower my equipment OK. It just will not go the entire top and bottom range in the lever cage without seizing. It only travels 1/2 to 2/3 in the middle of the cage. Previously it was going the entire length with very little resistance. Could someone give me a diagnosis and things to try? Thanks BWH

The quadrant and lever come off the tractor easily as an assembly. If you remove the four bolts holding it on, then you can see whether it moves freely. If it does then it"s something inside but I bet it"s the shaft passing through the housing that"s just seizing up with age. Go through the usual, penetrating oil, exercise it, maybe apply some heat, etc, till it"s free.

PS Note the four bolts go through slots, not holes. This is to position the quadrant assembly such that the control valve operates when the lever is in the right area.

John ----After taking the 4 bolts out of the Quadrant assemblly does the whole assembly and shaft slide out without being attached to or holding pressure on fork or anything inside. If this is the case I should be able to pull the unit out and get penetrating oil to the quadrant assemble in the lever shaft area. I gather the quadrant assembly and shaft will have to be reinserted in the same position that it comes out or the fork inside won't operate the control valve

Yes the whole thing will slide out and it isn't attached to anything, BUT it will need resetting when you come to refit it.

Dont know about the 20"s but on my TO-30 there is an opening on top of the control shaft assembly to oil the shaft.

John thanks I'll give it a whirl the next time I'm out at the shed. Steve or Mary - There is a place on top of the housing that is shaped like an oiler (recessed ball in a raised place) but it is solid and doesn't allow oil to go through as some of this type oilers I have seen. Those usual have a small ball which is spring loaded and you can push the ball down and apply the oil. I thought the same was true but on closer inspection it does not. BILL H.
