Gentlemen (and Ladies?)

I lost the lights on my TEA 20.

The last time I used my tractor, I was blowing snow and my rear light went out. I didn't have time to investigate if it was wiring or a bulb.

Last night, I was using it again and it came time to turn on my headlights. After a few minutes, there was a flash behind me and my headlights went out. This time I investigated and found that the single black wire going to my rear light had come apart (I guess that's why it went out earlier) and then it welded itself to the tractor body (the flash).

Are there fuses on these tractors or do I look somewhere else to fix this glitch. And please, no comments about me being in the dark - I already know that.

Thanks in advance.

Gary

Gary,

I highly doubt that this short would affect the engine as the light circut is a seperat wire system. If you do have trouble it is likely a dead battery, as you grounded the two terminals.

The lighting system is usually fused with an inline fuse or a fused switch (as shown here).

Your bulb is also probally fine.

Thanks for the picture. I checked my light switch yesterday, but it was hard to get a good look at it because it was hidden by a few other things. I really couldn't see anything that looked like a glass fuse, but I didn't spend too much time on it.

The tractor did start and I worked until dark. I will take a closer look when I get a chance.

Thanks again.

PS I bought a package of fuses on my way home just in case. There were only about a hundred different packages to choose from in the Automotive section at Canadian Tire, so I chose a package that said "British", because my tractor was made in England. Do you know what size of fuse I need?

No fuses on my TEA but I have heard tell of some light switches that have a fuse mounted right on them. You will likely need to replace some lengths of wire and all will be well again. I had the same experience - did the tractor stop running when the lights went out?

Thanks for your reply, Jim. I'll check the light switch. I don't think I fried the entire electrical system because the tractor kept running. I should have tried to start it again after I shut it down to see if the starter still works. If it won't start this afternoon, I'm gonna be in trouble because we're on a job and time is of the essence.
