Hi. I"m new to this forum. I"ve learned so much this last week. It"s great. I live on a small gulf island on the west coast of B.C. on a 7 acre hobbie farm . V. and I are coming up to 30 years this summer and have a son 22 . I"ll be turning 50 tommorow. I started out as an auto mechanic then got into house construction. My son and I have worked together the last 4 years, we just completed a house doing most every trade. We specialize in cabinet making. I"ve owned my 51 TEA20 for 15 years. There"s no serial# plate under the steering wheel unfortunatly. The engine serial # is S105845E, water pump is on cylinder head, oil filter on angle on left side, shifter lever plate is part of steering box , gear box housing is aluminum and it"s 6 volt, so I concluded it must be a 1951 TEA. The number 721 is cast on the gear box next to the dip stick. It"s a great unit, I mostly use it to haul fire wood , manure and skid logs. I replaced the original tires , still lots of tread but they were rotten. I painted the rims first . I salvaged an alternator , regulator , coil and ballast resistor off an old Chrysler and converted it to 12 volt. I also change the oil and coolant regularly and keep it covered. Thats the key around here with all the rain , keeping it dry. It"s preformed great for 15 years. Now I need help with trying to a find a new bendix or 9 tooth gear for the Lucas 6 volt bullet nose starter and a new 6 volt ring gear for a Standard 85mm engine. I figured the damage to the ring gear happened with the previous owner leaving it out in the weather and having to crank and crank to get it going. I hope that having left the starter 6 volt had nothing to do with it. I"ve converted other veicles to 12 volt before and left the starter 6 volt and never had a problem. Well again it"s a pleasure and any advise or parts imformation will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I found who does a Starter Ring gear for you it is Vapormatic and the part number is VPC4200, you order Vapormatic parts from your local tractor dealer (some anyway) I tried on here too but they only do one for a 12 volt.

No it has nothing to do with leaving the 6 volt starter in place when it was converted to 12 volt, it just happens like that sometimes. You may have seen I am trying to trace all the TEA tractors in Canada, I have added yours to the list using the engine number. I did a quick check and it was made late February 1951 so everything checks out. The Starter gear is supposed to be available from a "Sparex" dealer (usually your local tractor dealer can get it)as part S42422 but the 6volt type and the 12 v type are different due to the lead-in on the teeth so I will have to ask Sparex over here if it is the same, they may have made it that way.Usually the wear takes place on the ring gear because the starter does not snap into place like a 12 volt system does, maybe that is what caused the damage to start in the first place. The Pinion for the starter can be obtained from these guys:- www.marcsone.com ,they have offices in Arizona and California,I spoke to a man named Khoi Vu and he knew exactly what part I was talking about, his phone # is 877-627-2111

I will let you know about the Starter gear as soon as they confirm one way or the other.

BTW....HAPPY BIRTHDAY for tomorrow

Thanks very much John. That's a great Birthday present. I survived a day skiing with my son and a wonderfull evening with friends. Very little snow all winter and the ski mountain never really opened , now there's over 240cm. I'm going to stamp all the information on to some brass sheet and refasten it were the original I.D. plate was. Thanks again.
