I have replaced the seals and bearings in the rearend of my TO-20. Flushed it and now looking for the proper type of transmission or rearend oil. The local farm supply store (Fleet Farm) has several different types. Some are labeled for the brand of tractors they're to be used in. (I'm a Fergy owner in John Deere country!) One type is labeled "Universal Hydra/Trans oil." Would this be right?
Thanks for any information.

FLEET FARM has NO match for the oil you need you need GL-1 fleet has GL-5 NOT a match go to napa or your MF dealer it's M1103 they might say they don't or can't get but they can do not use M1129

What Jeff-oh says. Also, you can read much much more on this subject in the archives on this site, but most of the posts pretty much echo Jeff's comments. The only other thing maybe to mention is there are three drain holes and you need to drain all three and let them drain really well, but I suppose you have done that. Also, if well drained, it holds six gallons.

Thanks Jeff-oh and phil(va)! I drive right past a NAPA store near work. I'll stop in tomorrow. My repair manual does a good job of how to do repairs but, for the life of me I couldn't find what type of oil to use. Thanks again!

NAPA p/n 65-205 is 5 gal pail
65-201 is one gal jug

You'll need six gallons

The manual calls for 90 wt. straight mineral oil in temps above 50 deg. and 80 wt. below 50.

This it oil that is labeled (specification) GL-1.

The GL-3"s, -4"s and -5"s have sulfur in them that may corrode the yellow metals in the tractors transmission.

GL-1 oil is available at NAPA stores and is PN 65-205. Call ahead of time as it is not normally stocked (at least in my neck of the woods) but it can retrieved from the regional wearhouse with in a day or two.

The Univesal Hydra/trans oil"s are comparatively thinner than the 90 wt.

NAPA 65-205 was $26.00 for a 5 gallon bucket.

If you do not have a NAPA store near by post back as there are other options.

Jeff
