Hey guys,

I was replacing the radiator on my to-2664 and was surprised when I didn"t find a tstat in the upper rad hose. I searched through the archives and found one reference to a tstat being located in between the cast upper rad hose neck and the block. So, I have a three questions.

1. Is it possible my tstat is in an oddball location?

2. What is the easiest way to check if a tstat is there? I thought about just running the garden hose into the upper neck and seeing if the water made it through to the lower hose. Any thoughts?

3. If I need a new tstat, can anyone confirm an 8N tstat fits in the 20? I have a TSC close and they stock 8N parts.

Thanks guys, I love this board.

The only place for the Tstat is in the upper rad hose between the cast coolant outlet and the rad connection. It's easy enough to open the radiator cap and squeeze the hose to see if it's there. I don't know if the 8N fits or is the right range but yu can get one from the folks on the left of this forum. Or check an MF dealer.

The 8N thermostat will fit,and is the right temp. Make sure you install it with the cone toward the radiator.

Thanks guys! You are the best. Now I just need to find a short piece of 1.5" radiator hose. Auto stores only seem to carry the prebent ones for cars and are priced too high to cut a 6" length out of. One person recommended a hot tub/jacuzzi store might have some high temp hose in the right diameter. Any ideas where else I might find some? Thanks again!

You can also get your radiator hoses upper and lower at TSC, it is marked TO-20 on the package. If they don,t stock them, most auto parts stores carry straight hose stock. O,Rielys or Napa is a good place to try.
