I have a 1955-1957 Ferguson TO35 that
needs a new clutch. My father in law and I could
change it but we need a manual with step by step
instructions to do this. I have the original manuals that came with the tractor but it does
not give any information on how to do this. Also,
in the manual there are two types of models, the
Deluxe and the Standard. Our seriel number is 150021. We think we have the Deluxe model but are
unsure. According to the manual, the clutches are different in each model. Is there anywhere I can
obtain step by step instructions on how to replace
the clutch?

According to the serial number, you have a 1955 model. (Serial #'s go from 140006 to 167156 for that year.)
You can order a service manual from the links to the left of this forum.. Look under Marketplace.
I don't know the difference between a Deluxe and a Standard, but I can't imagine a clutch replacement being much different between the two of them, (or most tractors actually.)
Good luck on the repair. Since you're going to have to split the tractor anyway, you'll be wise to replace the throwout bearing along with the clutch and pressure plate. Also give the flywheel a good inspection and make sure it's still in good shape.

Hi Sam -

You may have either a single stage or two stage clutch. Letters in front of the serial number identify the type - third letter "F" is single, "M" is dual. If have a live PTO (your PTO runs with engine running, tractor in gear, with the clutch half way down and wheels stopped) you have the two stage clutch.

I sent a detailed reassembly instruction to Kim, the YT board administrator, three weeks ago, but don't know just where it's stored. May help save a punched-out clutch disk (or worse) on reassembly.

Try posting a note "Hey, Kim, Where is it?" !

Otherwise drop me a note and I'll attach it to a return e-mail.

Not a difficult job, but there are a few tricks!

Jack

I always see people mentioning those prefix letters, where are they, if they are directly in front of the s/n, my tractor(s/n 140963) doesn't have them, just TO 35 and then the s/n, anyone know why?

The early TO-35s did not include the prefix letters (e.g. SGM, etc) on the tractor SN plate. I'm not certain just when they began to use them, but I think they were included by 1957. For sure, they were included on all MF 35s. Perhaps someone else out there can further enlighted us as to when the numbersing system began to include the letters.
