I called a local dealer today about a TO-30 Fergie. Belly is painted red, sheet metal is beat up, grille is bent, one foot board is rotted off and monkeyed up. They told me they want $3250.00 for it. I nearly choked. I think they are double what it is worth. Any opinions?

I guess i found a deal then. I just recently bought a To-30 for $200. All it needs is a new set of rings and a head gasket and it will run hopefully. Its sheet metal is okay. I pesonally wouldnt give him over $1200 if it needs that much sheet metal.

I paid $3200 for my TO30 a couple of years ago. The tractor had been disassembled, sand blasted, primed, painted, some engine work etc. It runs well and has good hydrolics. Your deal does not sound too good. I have been trying to sell a TO20 for several months at only $1800 with not many contacts so go figure.

Prices are somewhat based on local supply & demand. Don't know where this dealer is, but sounds like there must be a HUGE demand for beat-up TO-30's that they can charge that much and get it. Around here you might see $2000 for a solid TO-30 with bush hog or finish mower. I wouldn't pay more than $1000 for one you describe unless the engine, tires and lift looked to all be in excellent shape.... Of course, I have a good TO-20, so I don't have much need for a beat-up, red TO-30.
Keep looking, or offer the dealer about 1/2 what they are asking.

I paid $2650 for my TO-30 here in Southern Wisconsin about 3 years ago. The fenders and grill were pretty rough (now replaced), but it had been overhauled fairly recently and had decent tires and good hydraulics (replaced the pressure relief valve on the pump - probably didn"t need to, either). For comparison purposes, I looked at a 9N at a local dealership. They had put new brakes on it and that was about it. It ran okay, but it looked pretty tough (beat up, that is). They wanted $3200 for it. I, too, nearly choked. That was their rock bottom price. It sat on their lot for nearly a year and a half before I noticed it was gone. You take a chance buying from a private indvidual, but you"re pretty much guaranteed your going to pay less. My two cents.

Gee you almost described the one I bought last year... except the part that the hydralics barely worked. Well I am not sure about your part of the world, but here on Virginia and the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake bay I paid $1500 and got a nice big scrape blade with the deal. BTW it didn't take much to flush and rivive the hydralics. I have seen them go for as high as 2300 here in very good condition. However all the ones I have seen bought & sold were private sales. The tractor dealers tend to ask much more.
