i want to convert my 48 to-20 to 12 volt i do not want to buy a kit as they cost alot and i have a few good gm and ford alternators what elis do i need and how do i make the switch also will i have to replace my starter to 12 volts? it is week and i have a few that may work buy i havent looked at them

Chris ,
anything on the tractor now that is 6 volts will need to be changed to 12 volt like the lite bulbs for instance ,the coil you can get away with using a resistor in series with the hot lead feeding it ,the starter will be ok provided it is good now,the big thing will be the mounting of the alternator,use secure brackets as you dont want it to fly off,also you should have a pully that can use the exesting belt ,or at least one as thick,hope this helps

6 volt starter works better on 12 volt.Just donot crank it for a really long time.

battery, coil and if your alternator doesn't have a built in regulator then you will need a voltage regulator.
