Rod: When I first got my Tea 20 the Hydraulics were working however when I drove the 15 miles home with it they had quit. Then they worked a few days later for a short time only. What I subsequently found was a small lock ring at the end of the pump control had dropped out. The lock ring holds a rod attached to the end of the pump control which I think keeps the pump control from sticking. With the lock ring gone the rod would not let the control valve closed completely until it vibrated enough to slip into the end of the contol valve. Just as soon as you moved the valve again it would not work. The lock ring is shown on the attached photo from my manual.(Number 13 at the bottom of the page.)

Thank you for the information and the diagram. My parts manual doesn't have the exploded part and I think it calls the ring a bushing for the hydraulic pump valve. Does that sound plausible?

So did you discover the problem by peeking down through the filler hole? How much did you have to take apart to fix it?

Rod: I dropped the whole pump out of the tractor to check the pump out. When the control valve was removed I found the rod not attached. The ring is a circlip that fits into a groove just inside the end of the pump valve ( about 1/8") and holds the rod attached to the valve. I think the rod just rocks the valve slightly to keep it from sticking. The other end of the rod fits into the fork (# 14) if I remember correctly.( NOT the fork that moves the control valve). The only bushing listed in the parts list is item # 20 in the diagram. If you wish I could send you copy of the diagram and Parts List.

I think I understand from the diagram. The part I don't get is when you say you dropped it out. Wouldn't you lift it out? It's at the top of the tranny, isn't it, and displayed in the manual upside down?

I have much better diagrams for the MF 35 but they don't help here.

Which way is up?

Rod: The pump drops out of the bottom of the centre housing. You have to disconnect the yoke from the "T" on the end of the control valve by reaching trough the inspection port, remove the PTO shaft after draining the trans/hydraulic fluid from all three drain plugs. The middle drain plug is in a rectangular plate on the bottom of the casing and this is the bottom of your hydraulic pump. Just as the diagram shows. THE DIAGRAM IS RIGHT SIDE UP. Perhaps John (UK) or someone with the mechanical knowledge could give step by step directions. I am not a mechanic but did get to see a pump which had been removed before I tackled it and just followed the diagram.
