I was looking at 3 point implements on the Northern Tool web page and found the Howse Dirt Scoop.

A dirt scoop as far as I can see is a must have. For the money $250 new, I was able to buy a used for $120. After you have one, you will wonder why you waited so long to buy one. Only thing better is a FEL, but that is alot more money. I have used mine to did holes, (have heard of ponds being dog with them), moving dirt piles, or as just a big wheel barrow. Think of how much work the wheel barrow does for you.

Thanks Chuck. I think I could use one of those. Will check my Northern book.

There"s a trip lever at the back of the bucket. Mine has a rope attached to it and when you pull the rope, the lever trips, the bucket tips, dumps, and then the bucket comes back up and re-locks. A great implement for the money.

You have one? I was wondering how you use it. Appears to "plow" up about a quarter yard of dirt, raise the 3 point, move and dump?

Yep, I bought one from a fellow awhile back and it is very cool indeed. You can mount it facing either forward or backward (I prefer backward) and it scoops up about three wheelbarrows full per gulp. Raise the 3 point, take it where you want, pull the rope and it dumps. The bucket is heavy in the back, so when it empties, it automatically relatches itself. Since there are no mechanics to speak of, it is ridicously (sp?) reliable.

Has anyone figured out a way to shorten and lengthen the top link while using the scoop when mounted facing the back. I have found that to get a good scoop full, the top link has to be lengthened in order to tilt it down somewhat while filling the scoop. When you raise up the load the dirt tends to want to slide off the back, especially on a hillside so there is a need to shorten the top link at this point. I have been toying with some kind of a hydraulic top link or maybe a screw type with a reversible motor to shorten and lengthen it. Any ideas out there?

Hey Crem,

I am about to purchase a 3ph dirt scoop for my 20hp Jinma 4X4. But don't know whether to get the 24" or the 30". Don't know if the 30" will clear the DrawBar on my tractor.'

Also, whether to get the King Kutter or the Howse brand.

Any help will be appreciated.

Have a nice day,
Joe

The Howse isn't reversable. Found another one at King Kutter, and it's reversable. I have a local dealer, too!
