I have a TO 30. It does not have a temp. gauge. I would like to have one. Where would I put it? There is a bolt on the goose neck by upper radiator hose. Can heat probe go here? If so how do I get the rusted bolt out? I am also having water circulation problem. I have flushed out both radiator and engine with water hose. water goes through both great. Could impellers in water pump be worn out?

It is possible for the impellor to be damaged or maybe not turning for one reason or another, it's worthwhile removing the pump to check. Have you made sure the thermostat is opening, as it is in the top hose it will restrict water flow until the engine heats up. Yes the bulb from the temp. gauge gan go in there, but make sure the one you get isn't too long as the hole is not very deep.(measure before you buy)

I don't have a thermostat. The gooseneck coming out of the engine to the upper radiator hose is resrticted down to a square 3/4" x 1" opening. I was told this was built this way to act as a water restriction (thermostat). I have an IT shop manual ordered.

There should be a thermostat fitted in the top hose. It should start to open at 60 deg. C. The radiator cap pressure should be 4lbs.psi.

there should be a knockout in the dash ,for the gauge to slide in ,if you look at the back of dash you can usually see it better ,the bolt you talk about in the neck usuall comes out easily ,a little PB blaster spray may free up the threads some for the new capillary bulb going back in its place ,usually the new unit comes with a lot of slack so you coil it up gently to keep out of the way
good luck
Danny
