Is this the right PTO seal for a TO-35 Deluxe, c. 1955?

It's an A&I part, #A-1077452M1 .

I installed this and my PTO leaks 10 times as badly as it did before. It's a river. I had to park on a steep slope tonight to try and keep some of my $98732498 a gallon GL-1 inside of the case.

This looks nothing like the seal that was in there, banged up as it was.

I installed this with the little raised lip you see facing outwards.

If it's not the right seal, I'm going to pitch a fit. I already have once, I'll make it a doozy next time.

This went into the seal carrier (or whatever that's called with gentle tapping. It slipped right onto the PTO shaft.

The shaft itself seemed to be in decent condition.

I have no idea of what I'm doing, I guess, after an afternoon of thinking I did.

Looks like the seal was installed the right way. Could the shaft be worn at the site of lip contact that will cause leakage?? Certainly something to look at when replacing seal. Remember some years back, Fel-pro had a sleeve and seal kit for Chev small block crank front seal repair, for use when the crank had a groove wore in it by an old hard seal. Could be same here. Also, check for slop in the bearings supporting the PTO shaft.

That's a very interesting title for a posting: cryptic, yet dramatic.

I guess Roger is in the painful moral re-education stage now, as we members of the chorus look on in awe. Let's hope the resolution of the drama leaves everyone satisfied and purged.

THe lip of the seal should face inwards towards the tractor. Did you check the seal on the shaft first to see if it did fit ok at the lip, if it is slack it will leak and when you do fit it be careful to ease the lip over the shaft or you will either damage it or turn it inside out.

Let me guess...I bought the seal for the wrong end of the shaft? What an idiot, if that's the case.

only one seal on the outer end of shaft LIP goes to the oil side sounds like you put it in backwords and before you put a seal in check it on the shaft first for fit should be snug
