Thr motor on my TO-30 was running and stopped. When I tried to start it, nothing happend. It made no sound. The battery is good and the wires are all tight. Could it be my started switch? Can I check the starter switch by junping the switch with a heavy wire. Any other ideas appreciated.

You can jump the key switch on the dash, which could be the problem, with a light wire. You can jump the starter switch on the bellhousing with a heavy wire like a jumper cable. But there are two things I would try also. First I would use a ohm meter to check continuity. Put the meter across the two connections on the switches in question and check them when off and then check them when on. They should have continuity when on, of course. If not, that's your problem, and you haven't risked anything. Another thing to do to isolate the problem is check the starter by putting a jumper cable from another vehicle (12 volts is ok if you do it this way) directly on the starter. Hook one cable to the top post of the starter and just touch the other to a good ground, like a bolt on the flywheel cover. Make very sure the tractor is out of gear if you have the switch on. The starter should turn fast. If not, the problem is in your starter (probably a flat spot on armature or bad brushes, etc.) If starter doesn't turn, put tractor in high gear and push backwards enough to turn it over and try again. If it works, that also will confirm starter problem. If it is starter, it should pull start very easily. Just put in 3rd gear and it most likely will start in 30 feet or less. Just a few thoughts to check.
