Hi; I just rebuilt the bottom of my t0-30. I am trying to put it in time. I located the timing marks on the flywheel but cannot find the pointer or notch they talk about in the book. Is it in the pan or starter hole?

booger, your TO has a timing hole, maybe 1" diameter, on the starter side of the engine, I think it is right below the starter if I remember right. Probably has a round plug in it. You need to pry it out with a screwdriver.

It's kind-of unnerving the first time you check the timing with a light, with the engine running. You pretty much have to stick your head right up by the engine... close to the distributor ( which isn't too far away from the spinning fan blades), and shine the light thru that hole under the starter.
It might also help you see the marks better if you mark them with a marker or paint. You can drop that semi-circle cover plate on the bottom of the bell housing to get easy access to the flywheel to mark it if you want.
