I have an old toplink I'm trying to restore. It's similar to a modern type(threaded @ each end)& has a steel ring, instead of a lever, at the midpoint. One of the ball ends is stamped "forged", the other is stamped "made in england".

Did Ferguson offer such a thing?

Jeff

P.S. Sorry, I forgot to snap a pic while I was @ the farm.

No Ferguson didn't offer that...it sounds like a Tamkin top link to me, this was possibly the first screw type top link we had in the UK.

What you have sounds like the adjustable, screw type, top link, that was supplied with the Ferguson Blade Terracer,B-FE-20, to allow easy blade pitch adjustment. I think it was also sold as a Ferguson TE accessory.
If yours is a genuine Ferguson item it will have "increase" and "decrease" stamped on the steel ring.

We had a toplink like that and it came with a blade that was probably bought in the forties. We used it on a Ford Ferguson which I am not sure if it was a 9N or 2N. The blade is long gone, but I still have the toplink which is very rusted.

One end is free & loose, the other is frozen solid(the screw & the ball). I'm soaking it w/ PB now, if that doesn't work I'll try a little h & h.

My next trip to the farm I'll clean it up & see if it's stamped as you say. Thanks for the info.

Jeff,
The original Ferguson top link consisted of two lengths of flat bar, slotted at each end to allow for lengthening/shortening, which was bolted together by 2 bolts. What you have might be a later Massey Ferguson top link.

The flat-bar version you describe sounds just like the original toplink from Ford that came w/ my 8N.

A flat bar top link came with the new TE-20 we bought way back in 1948. Dont know if it was stamped Ford or Ferguson.

I haven't noticed a stamp on ours either, have to take a closer look.
